Device Net________________ Automation Technology
Device Net is a low cost communications tool designed to eliminate expensive hardwiring and network various devices together according to an open network standard. The technology was originally developed for the automotive industry, and has now been adapted to many different applications. This technology can easily control and integrate devices like limit switches, sensors, speed and voltage controllers, and various types of overload protection. The beauty of DeviceNet is its ability to join all of these components together into an integrated system complete with full diagnostic capabilities all over a single four wire cable.
Device Net is cutting edge technology, without any expensive licensing requirements or barriers. It is on the forefront of integrating computer technology with device controls. You can now design systems that react to changes automatically over a range of perimeters. Devices and controllers are available from many sources, (more are being developed all the time), but all operate on a single agreed upon protocol. Unlike other proprietary control systems there are many choices and you are not locked into a single source. Many of your current suppliers are producing DeviceNet equipment.
Device Net can reduce your costs in several ways. The devices are easier to wire, you have one cable, not all of the hard wiring currently used. The systems are much easier to trouble shoot and repair because the devices provide full diagnostic capability. All if the devices in the system are recognized by the control unit and their functions can be measured and recorded over time. If they fail a message is provided and they can be simply unplugged and replaced, even under full power. This keeps expensive equipment running and earning income. Another cost savings is in standardization of your controls. You can use the same equipment for a wide range of applications simply by changing programming (not components). This would allow you significant savings in inventory, and make your trouble shooting and repairs much easier and faster.
B&B offers all of our resources to aid you in evaluating and developing your application of DeviceNet. We can help you evaluate components, design the systems, and write the programs that tie it all together.
Included for your review is a DeviceNet technical overview and a representative list of companies who are supplying equipment and doing development work with DeviceNet. If you have any questions and/or concerns please feel free to contact us at anytime. We will make every effort to answer your questions. |
